Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that he would be among the first politicians targeted if either Atiku Abubakar or Peter Obi defeats President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Wike made the remarks during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Tinubu’s re-election despite mounting political opposition.
The minister said his open backing for the President had made him a prominent target for opposition politicians, but maintained that he had no regrets about his decision.
“I will be the first politician that I think they will come after. I will be the first politician. I know they will come for my head,” Wike said.
He explained that his political activities were currently centred on ensuring Tinubu secures another term, stressing that he would not remain silent while opposition candidates campaign to defeat the President.
Wike also claimed that he and his allies played a major role in preventing Atiku from securing stronger support in the South-East during the 2023 presidential election.
According to him, the decision to support Obi in the South-East was a deliberate strategy aimed at weakening Atiku’s chances and contributing to Tinubu’s eventual victory.
The FCT minister further predicted that Tinubu would secure at least 25 per cent of the votes in every Northern state in 2027, while claiming that Atiku would struggle to obtain 10 per cent in several Southern states.
Wike also criticised some governors over their alleged opposition to his political activities, particularly the governors of Imo and Kwara states, Hope Uzodimma and Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.
He accused the two governors of failing to reciprocate political support he claimed to have offered them in the past.
