The Peoples Redemption Party National Chairman, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has warned against attempts to influence or manipulate votes in Northern Nigeria as political parties intensify their mobilisation ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Baba-Ahmed said northern voters should be allowed to freely decide whether to support President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress without interference in the electoral process.
The PRP leader also alleged that supporters of the APC could rely heavily on financial inducements to secure votes in the region, arguing that money would not necessarily erase voters’ grievances against the Tinubu administration.
He specifically referenced voters in Zamfara, Kebbi, Sokoto, Katsina, Borno, Yobe, Kwara, Kaduna, Plateau, Kogi and Nasarawa states while questioning what the President’s campaign would tell residents as the 2027 contest draws closer.
Baba-Ahmed maintained that northern voters would defend their political choices and dignity, insisting that any decision to reject the APC and Tinubu must be respected.
His warning comes as the North remains a major battleground in the 2027 presidential race, with the ruling party and opposition groups stepping up efforts to consolidate support across the region.
The PRP chairman’s comments also bring electoral integrity back into the centre of the political debate, particularly concerns over vote-buying and the credibility of the eventual results.
However, the reported allegation that the APC will distribute money on an unprecedented scale is a political claim and has not been independently established as an adopted strategy of the ruling party.
With campaigns expected to intensify, the ability of political parties to convince voters through policies, records and grassroots engagement could become increasingly important, while the conduct of the election will remain under scrutiny.
