The Kwankwasiyya Movement has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of attempting to undermine the political strength of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The movement’s spokesman, Habibu Sale Mohammed, made the allegation while reacting to the growing rivalry among opposition figures ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Mohammed claimed that Atiku’s political strategy was aimed at weakening the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket rather than building a united opposition capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress.
He argued that Obi and Kwankwaso had developed strong personal followership across the country, saying their support was not solely dependent on political structures.
The spokesman said the Kwankwasiyya Movement remained committed to Kwankwaso’s political alliance with Obi and maintained that the NDC ticket could provide a credible alternative to the ruling party.
His comments come amid an increasingly heated exchange between the NDC and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which is fielding Atiku as its presidential candidate.
Kwankwaso had recently rejected claims that the NDC ticket could withdraw from the presidential race in favour of Atiku or any other candidate, insisting that he and Obi remained committed to contesting the election.
