A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Okoi Obono-Obla, has described the Rainbow Coalition linked to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike as “comic relief.”
Obono-Obla made the remark while reacting to growing political activities surrounding the coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He said the coalition was attracting attention because of the different political interests involved, but questioned its ability to pose a serious threat to the APC.
The APC chieftain has previously defended Wike’s efforts to bring politicians from different parties together to support President Bola Tinubu, arguing that cross-party alliances are not new in Nigerian politics.
He also criticised some APC governors who have opposed the coalition, accusing them of marginalising party members and creating conditions that have encouraged dissatisfied politicians to seek alternative political platforms.
According to him, political actors should be allowed to support candidates of their choice at different levels of an election.
