The Rivers State House of Assembly has rescinded its earlier decision declaring the seats of three lawmakers loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara vacant.
The lawmakers had previously lost their seats following a dispute that divided the Assembly during the prolonged political crisis involving Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
The latest decision comes as efforts to reconcile the two political camps continue in the state.
The reversal also follows a fresh meeting between Wike, members of the Rivers Assembly and other political leaders with Governor Fubara in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
The meeting was part of ongoing efforts to end the political disagreements that had strained relations between the governor, lawmakers and Wike’s political camp.
The Rivers political crisis had previously led to attempts to impeach Fubara and eventually contributed to the declaration of emergency rule in the state in March 2025. The elected officials later returned to office after the emergency rule ended.
