The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 93 senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force in a major leadership restructuring aimed at strengthening the Force’s command structure. The decision was reached during the Commission’s plenary held at its headquarters in Abuja.
The promotions saw 13 Commissioners of Police (CPs) elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs), while 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) were promoted to substantive Commissioners of Police. The Commission also approved the promotion of 28 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to DCPs and 35 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) to the rank of ACP.
PSC Chairman, retired DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu, congratulated the promoted officers and urged them to see their elevation as a call to greater responsibility. He charged them to remain professional, uphold discipline, and intensify efforts in protecting lives and property across the country.
Argungu also warned the officers against corruption, abuse of office, land grabbing, and other forms of misconduct capable of tarnishing the image of the Nigeria Police Force. He stressed that the Commission would continue to monitor their performance and hold them accountable to the highest ethical standards.
The PSC said the promotions followed the officers’ successful performance in written examinations and oral interviews conducted by the Commission, adding that the exercise was based on merit and designed to enhance efficiency and leadership within the Force.
