Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has said his primary ambition is to see Nigeria prosper, insisting that becoming president is not his ultimate goal.
According to Punch, Obi made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, where he said he would support anyone capable of transforming the country, regardless of who occupies the nation’s highest office.
The former Anambra State governor said his political involvement is driven by a desire to address Nigeria’s challenges, rather than personal ambition.
Obi maintained that if Nigeria begins to function effectively and delivers better opportunities for its citizens, he would be satisfied even if he is not the one leading the country.
He also said he has no personal attachment to holding public office, stressing that his focus remains on improving governance, reducing poverty and creating opportunities for young Nigerians.
However, Obi reaffirmed his decision to seek the presidency in 2027, saying he believes he has the capacity to unite the country and provide leadership capable of addressing its economic and security challenges.
