A former political adviser to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, Akin Osuntokun, has dismissed claims that the former Nigerian leader is secretly backing President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.
Osuntokun said Obasanjo remains committed to efforts aimed at building an alliance between Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, describing suggestions that he is working for Tinubu as unfounded.
He questioned how Obasanjo could be accused of supporting Tinubu while also being linked to the proposed Obi-Kwankwaso political arrangement, insisting that the two claims contradict each other.
Osuntokun’s remarks followed allegations by the Yoruba Ronu Leadership Forum, which accused Obasanjo of undermining the opposition and covertly aiding President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The forum argued that Obasanjo’s reported support for an Obi-Kwankwaso ticket was merely a strategy to weaken opposition forces, an allegation Osuntokun rejected.
He also dismissed claims that Obasanjo manipulated the outcome of the 2003 South-West governorship elections, saying the accusations were inaccurate and lacked historical basis.
