A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State, Dotun Babayemi, has urged voters and political supporters to shun violence ahead of the state’s governorship election scheduled for August 15.
Babayemi, who is the Director-General of the Osun West Governorship Campaign Council of the APC, made the appeal in a statement issued by his media office in Osogbo.
He expressed concern over the possibility of bloodshed and destruction of property during the election, urging all stakeholders to place the safety of residents above political interests.
According to him, the election should be approached as a democratic exercise and not an avenue for confrontation among supporters of different political parties.
Babayemi also appealed to voters to exercise their civic responsibilities peacefully while supporting the candidate of their choice.
The APC chieftain urged political actors, party supporters and other stakeholders to avoid actions capable of escalating tensions before, during and after the poll.
His warning comes amid heightened political activities in Osun ahead of the August 15 governorship election. Recent reports have raised concerns over political violence and attacks in parts of the state.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has fixed August 15, 2026, for the Osun governorship election, with major political parties intensifying their campaigns ahead of the poll.
Babayemi maintained that no political ambition should be allowed to cost Nigerians their lives or property, calling for a peaceful electoral process.
