A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Dele Momodu, has described Saturday’s Osun State governorship election as a contest between Governor Ademola Adeleke and President Bola Tinubu rather than a direct battle between Adeleke and the All Progressives Congress.
Momodu made the remark while expressing support for Adeleke’s re-election bid, according to Punch Newspaper. He argued that the influence of the President and the Federal Government has made the election more significant than an ordinary state-level contest.
The ADC chieftain’s position comes as political parties intensify their final mobilisation ahead of the August 15 election, with Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party facing Bola Oyebamiji of the APC and candidates from other parties.
Momodu, who has been vocal on opposition politics and efforts to challenge the APC ahead of the 2027 general election, urged Osun voters to consider the choice before them carefully.
His comments add another dimension to the closely watched election, which has attracted significant attention from political leaders across the country.
The APC has also deployed several senior figures to Osun in support of Oyebamiji, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and governors from different states, underscoring the importance attached to the poll by the ruling party.
With voting scheduled for Saturday, the competing camps are now focused on final voter mobilisation and ensuring their supporters turn out to cast their ballots.
