The Accord Party has petitioned President Bola Tinubu and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, over what it described as the alleged harassment, intimidation and arrest of its members ahead of the August 15 Osun State governorship election.
The party also called for the immediate removal of the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, accusing him of partisanship and warning that his continued stay in office could undermine the credibility of the election.
In a statement issued by its National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, the party alleged that about 100 of its leaders, candidates, members and supporters had been arrested and detained across the state, with some reportedly transferred to Abuja.
The party claimed the arrests and alleged intimidation were politically motivated and aimed at weakening its participation in the governorship election.
Accord urged President Tinubu, the Inspector-General of Police and other relevant authorities to investigate the allegations and ensure that security agencies remain neutral throughout the electoral process.
The development comes amid growing political tension in Osun State, with several parties raising concerns over security operations ahead of the governorship poll scheduled for August 15.
The Nigeria Police Force has previously denied allegations of political bias, maintaining that its operations are guided by law and aimed at preserving peace and security in the state.
