Former Attorney-General of the Federation and governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State, Abubakar Malami, has urged party members to put the collective interest of the party above personal political ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Malami made the call while inaugurating a 600-member ADC Campaign Council in Kebbi State, where he warned that internal disagreements, rivalry and sectional interests could weaken the party’s chances at the polls.
He urged members to embrace reconciliation whenever disagreements arise and work towards rebuilding trust within the party.
“Where there are disagreements, let us reconcile. Where there are grievances, let us listen. Where there is suspicion, let us rebuild trust. Our diversity must become our strength,” Malami said.
The former minister introduced the campaign theme, “One ADC, One Campaign,” stressing that candidates contesting different positions must operate as one political family.
“Different candidates, one ADC. Different communities, one Kebbi State. Different responsibilities, one common purpose,” he said.
Malami also cautioned party supporters against tribalism, sectionalism, hate speech and personal attacks, urging them to maintain an issue-based and peaceful campaign.
He reminded members that political contests would end while relationships among citizens would continue beyond the 2027 elections.
“After the elections, we will still worship together, attend the same markets, celebrate together, mourn together and raise our children together. No political ambition is worth destroying those bonds,” he said.
The ADC governorship candidate described the inauguration of the campaign council as a call to service rather than a reward, charging its members to mobilise supporters, reconcile aggrieved members and take the party’s message to communities across Kebbi State.
He said the council must work across the state’s 21 local government areas and ensure that communities, wards and senatorial districts are adequately represented in the party’s mobilisation efforts.
Malami said the success of the ADC campaign would depend on the ability of its members to work together, resolve internal differences and maintain discipline as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
