Former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo has officially rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and has been presented as the party’s candidate for the Ogun Central Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections. The development comes barely days after her resignation from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Obasanjo was formally received by PDP leaders and supporters at a ceremony held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta, where the Ogun State PDP chairman, Abayomi Tella, presented her with the party’s flag, confirming her as the PDP’s senatorial candidate for Ogun Central in the 2027 election.
The event attracted a large turnout of party faithful and was preceded by a procession through major streets of Abeokuta. Obasanjo was accompanied by the party’s governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, alongside supporters from across the state.
During the ceremony, Obasanjo pledged loyalty to the PDP and promised to uphold the party’s constitution, manifesto and code of conduct. She also vowed to prioritize the welfare of Ogun residents and Nigerians if elected.
The former lawmaker had recently left the APC, citing alleged disrespect, betrayal and unfair treatment by the party’s leadership as reasons for her decision to quit the ruling party.
