The minister of information and national orientation, Mohammed Idris, has inspected a newly completed television studio at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) headquarters and the ongoing renovation of the National Press Centre in Abuja, describing the projects as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to modernise public media infrastructure.
According to a statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, the minister said the projects align with the Tinubu administration’s drive to strengthen government-owned media organisations and improve public service broadcasting.
Speaking after touring the facilities on Monday, Idris said the new television studio ranks among the leading broadcast facilities in Africa and forms part of broader investments across the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), the Voice of Nigeria (VON), and the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He also commended the management and staff of the NTA for supporting the transformation process, noting that the reforms extend beyond infrastructure to include improvements in content, professionalism, innovation, and workforce development.
The minister said the federal government is procuring modern broadcast equipment for NTA stations across the country, adding that the investments are expected to improve the quality of public service broadcasting.
Idris further said the recently relaunched Digital Switch Over (DSO) programme complements the ongoing efforts to modernise Nigeria’s broadcasting industry and expand access to digital broadcasting.
Following his visit to the NTA headquarters, the minister inspected the renovation work at the National Press Centre located at Radio House in Abuja.
According to the ministry, the upgraded facility will serve as a modern media hub with improved infrastructure and high-speed internet to support journalists covering government activities and national events.
The minister urged contractors handling the project to complete the renovation within the scheduled timeline, stating that he would conduct a final inspection before the facility was commissioned.
The ministry said the ongoing upgrades across government-owned media institutions are aimed at strengthening public communication and improving the capacity of public broadcasters and media facilities nationwide.
