The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has appealed for increased and sustained funding, improved staff welfare, and greater investment in electoral infrastructure as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather pace.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, in Abuja.

Amupitan stressed that adequate funding remains essential for strengthening the commission’s capacity to conduct credible elections. He also highlighted the need to improve staff welfare, warning that experienced personnel have continued to leave the commission, affecting institutional capacity ahead of the next general elections.

He urged the RMAFC to support efforts aimed at providing consistent funding and investing in modern electoral infrastructure to enhance the efficiency and credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process.
