The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reaffirmed its commitment to conducting credible elections in 2027, assuring Nigerians that every valid vote cast during the general elections will count.
According to Punch Newspaper, INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, gave the assurance during a stakeholders’ meeting in Osogbo, Osun State, where he reiterated the commission’s resolve to strengthen public confidence in the electoral process.
Amupitan said the electoral body would continue to improve its processes and deploy technology to enhance transparency, accountability and the credibility of elections across the country.
He stressed that INEC has no preferred candidate or political party, adding that the commission’s responsibility is to ensure that the outcome of every election reflects the genuine choice of the electorate.
The INEC chairman also assured political parties, candidates and voters that the commission would strictly adhere to the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 and its election guidelines in conducting the 2027 general elections.
He noted that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) remains central to the commission’s efforts to safeguard the integrity of elections, adding that continuous testing and improvements would be carried out to guarantee efficient voter accreditation and result management.
Amupitan urged Nigerians to remain peaceful and actively participate in the electoral process, expressing confidence that the commission would deliver free, fair and credible elections that reflect the will of the people.
