A Gunmen Attack in Rivers has left four people dead, including a local vigilante commander and three women, in Omoku, the headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
According to Punch Newspaper, the victims were attacked on Tuesday evening by gunmen suspected to be cultists while they were sitting outside a residence along Oba Road in Omoku.
The vigilante commander, identified as Ozomela Stephen Nwaocha, was reportedly killed alongside three women, including his sister, during the attack.
Residents said the Gunmen Attack in Rivers may have been a reprisal linked to an earlier security operation that disrupted a youth meeting in the community, leaving two people with gunshot injuries. However, security authorities have yet to officially confirm the motive.
Videos circulating after the incident showed residents mourning the victims while others rushed the injured to safety.
The attack caused panic across the community, with some residents reportedly fleeing their homes as businesses shut down over fears of further violence.
