The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the June 20 Ekiti State election, Dr. Wole Oluyede, has explained that his decision to withdraw his petition challenging Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s victory was driven by statesmanship and the broader interest of Ekiti State, dismissing claims that he was induced to abandon the case.
Oluyede said he chose to discontinue the legal challenge after careful reflection and consultations, insisting that prolonged litigation would not serve the state’s development. He maintained that his decision should not be interpreted as an admission that the election was flawless, but rather as a commitment to peace and stability.
The PDP candidate also declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, while cautioning members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against assuming victory is guaranteed. He stressed that the outcome of the Ekiti governorship election should not be seen as a reflection of the 2027 presidential contest, urging political actors to remain focused on grassroots mobilisation.
Oluyede further urged political leaders across party lines to prioritise governance and the welfare of citizens over prolonged electoral disputes, saying development should take precedence over partisan interests.
