The Nigeria Police Force has assured residents of Ekiti State of a secure and peaceful environment ahead of the June 20 governorship election, saying comprehensive security measures have been put in place to protect voters and electoral officials.
Speaking during stakeholders’ engagements in Ado-Ekiti, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, said the force, in collaboration with other security agencies, has concluded extensive deployment plans covering all 16 local government areas, 177 wards and over 2,400 polling units across the state.
According to the police chief, security personnel and operational assets will be strategically positioned across the state to guarantee the safety of voters, election officials, observers and other participants throughout the electoral process.
He explained that the deployment is aimed at preventing violence, voter intimidation and other acts capable of disrupting the election, while ensuring that eligible voters exercise their constitutional rights without fear.
Disu also urged political parties, candidates and their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and adhere to the provisions of the peace accord signed ahead of the poll, stressing that security agencies would remain professional, impartial and committed to safeguarding democratic values.
The governorship election is scheduled to hold across Ekiti State on June 20, with thousands of security personnel expected to be on duty to ensure a free, fair and credible exercise.
