Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has faulted the Federal Government’s claims that Nigeria’s economy is recovering, insisting that the reality facing many citizens tells a different story.
Atiku argued that worsening living conditions, rising poverty and the decline of the country’s manufacturing sector contradict official claims of economic progress. He maintained that economic recovery should be reflected in improved livelihoods, increased productivity and better living standards for Nigerians.
The former vice president also criticised what he described as an overreliance on economic statistics, saying macroeconomic indicators alone cannot accurately measure the well-being of citizens if businesses continue to struggle and households face increasing hardship.
According to Atiku, genuine economic recovery should translate into lower poverty levels, improved food security, job creation and stronger industrial growth. He urged the Federal Government to focus on policies that directly improve the welfare of Nigerians rather than relying on positive economic figures.
