President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has met with governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the ruling party intensifies efforts to resolve the controversy surrounding its 2027 Presidential Campaign Council list.
The closed-door meeting, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday, formed part of consultations aimed at addressing concerns that emerged following the release of the 223-member campaign council list on August 23.
The list had generated criticism within the party, particularly over the inclusion of some controversial figures and allegations that key stakeholders were not adequately consulted before the structure was announced.
According to party sources, the consultations extended over two days, with APC governors and other party leaders reviewing the composition of the campaign council and proposing adjustments.
The initial list was reportedly removed from the APC’s X account, with a revised version expected to be released after President Tinubu approves the proposed changes.
The development suggests that the ruling party is seeking to resolve internal disagreements ahead of the 2027 presidential election and ensure broader representation within its campaign structure.
The President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, had earlier clarified that the changes should not be regarded as a complete review of the campaign council.
Dare said the list was not final because several subcommittees were yet to be constituted, creating room for additional party members and political stakeholders to be accommodated.
He explained that the expected changes would amount to adjustments where necessary rather than a wholesale restructuring of the campaign council.
The APC campaign council is chaired by President Tinubu, with Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda serving as first and second vice-chairmen respectively. Senator Abdulaziz Yari was named Director-General, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was designated Secretary.
