A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, Adewale Waheed, has warned the party against fielding Rep. Raheem Olatunji Olawuyi as its candidate for the Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general election, saying such a move could hand victory to the opposition.
Waheed appealed to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, to review the reported decision, arguing that Olawuyi allegedly finished fourth during the party’s primary election despite being a three-term member of the House of Representatives. He maintained that allowing him to emerge as the party’s candidate would undermine the credibility of the primary process.
The APC stalwart further claimed that Olawuyi lacks the political appeal needed to retain the constituency for the ruling party, warning that his candidacy could trigger discontent among party members and discourage grassroots mobilisation during the election.
According to Waheed, if the reported nomination stands, many party faithful may revolt against the decision, making it easier for opposition parties to capture the federal constituency in 2027. He described the development as unfair to other aspirants and insisted that the party should reward merit and internal democracy.
He urged the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC to ensure that whoever eventually emerges as the party’s candidate enjoys the support of members and possesses the electoral strength to secure victory for the party in the constituency.
