Senate President Godswill Akpabio has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure re-election in 2027, saying the administration has enough achievements to present to Nigerians during the campaign.
Akpabio made the remarks in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, while receiving members of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions, TETFund and NELFund, led by Senator Muntari Dandutse.
The Senate President said Tinubu inherited a difficult economic situation but had implemented reforms that, according to him, improved the financial position of states and enabled more states to meet their salary and pension obligations.
He recalled that 27 states were previously unable to pay salaries and pensions, arguing that the situation had changed under the Tinubu administration.
Akpabio said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would rely on the administration’s record when it begins campaigning for the 2027 presidential election.
He expressed confidence that Nigerians would assess the government’s performance and vote to retain Tinubu for another term.
The Senate President also criticised opposition politicians seeking to challenge Tinubu in the election, questioning whether they had presented convincing alternatives to the APC-led government.
Defending the performance of the 10th National Assembly, Akpabio said the Senate had made significant progress and would continue supporting the implementation of the administration’s programmes.
He further urged lawmakers to remain focused despite criticism on social media, advising senators who may not return after the 2027 elections to continue supporting the APC and Tinubu’s administration.
