Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has pledged to support President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, assuring the President that he would work to deliver the state’s votes to him.
Adeleke made the commitment while receiving the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Ajibola Basiru, during a visit on Sunday.
The governor described Tinubu as his “dear father” and said his promise to support the President was genuine, stressing that he would not make a commitment he did not intend to honour.
“I don’t make empty promises. When I said we will deliver Osun State votes to our dear father, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I mean it 100 per cent,” Adeleke said.
The governor also urged politicians across Osun State to set aside political differences and work in the interest of the state and the President.
“Politics must be with integrity. We are all from Osun State. Let’s forget our differences and work for the President,” he said.
Adeleke linked his political approach to lessons from his late father, whom he described as a diplomat and labour union politician. According to the governor, his father taught him and his siblings that commitments must be honoured once made.
He also recalled his involvement in the political negotiations that preceded the emergence of Godswill Akpabio as Senate President and Tajudeen Abbas as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Adeleke said he had assured Tinubu at the time that lawmakers from Osun would support the President’s preferred candidates, despite indications that some members of his political camp favoured Senator Abdulaziz Yari.
According to him, he subsequently persuaded the lawmakers to support the President’s position, resulting in the three senators from Osun and members of the House of Representatives backing the preferred candidates.
The governor said the experience further strengthened his belief that political promises should be honoured.
“I don’t make empty promises, I don’t play games. That’s not me, because I have a fear of God,” he added.
Adeleke’s declaration comes as political parties and major stakeholders intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with alliances and realignments increasingly shaping the political landscape.
The governor urged Osun politicians and residents to look beyond partisan differences and support initiatives capable of advancing the interests of the state and its people.
