Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has pointed to the outcome of the Osun governorship election as evidence of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to democratic principles and credible elections.
Sanwo-Olu said the victory of Governor Ademola Adeleke, who belongs to another political party, showed that political power could change hands through the ballot without interference from the Federal Government.
Speaking at the seventh annual lecture organised by Freedom Online in Lagos, the governor described Tinubu as a lifelong democrat committed to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
He said the President was determined to leave behind a stronger democracy for Nigerians and Africa, while urging politicians to avoid violence and electoral malpractice ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sanwo-Olu also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure adequate preparations for the elections and warned against the growing threat of misinformation and manipulated content.
