APC Says Sylva’s Departure Won’t Derail 2027 Plans in Bayelsa

The All Progressives Congress has dismissed concerns that the resignation of former Bayelsa State Governor Timipre Sylva could weaken the party’s political structure in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.

Former APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena, said the party remained strong and united despite Sylva’s decision to leave the APC.

Nabena said the majority of APC members and stakeholders in Bayelsa had decided to remain with the party and work toward its success in future elections.

He said the party’s stakeholders were committed to supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid and ensuring victory for APC candidates in the state.

According to Nabena, Sylva’s departure should not be interpreted as a threat to the party’s political fortunes, insisting that the APC had developed a structure capable of surviving the exit of individual leaders.

He further described the Bayelsa APC as a formidable political institution that had grown beyond any single individual.

Nabena, who claimed to be speaking for about 90 per cent of APC members and stakeholders in the state, nevertheless acknowledged Sylva’s contribution to the development of the party and wished him well in his political journey.

Sylva had announced his resignation from the APC on August 31, saying the party had deviated from the principles on which it was founded.
