Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has placed the newly inaugurated local government chairmen under pressure to secure victory for the All Progressives Congress in their respective councils during the 2027 elections.
Nwifuru issued the directive on Tuesday in Abakaliki while inaugurating the newly elected chairmen, vice-chairmen and councillors across the state’s 13 local government areas.
The governor told the council chairmen that their political positions could be at risk if they failed to deliver their respective local government areas to the APC.
“Any chairman who fails to win his council will be removed from office and replaced with a councillor,” Nwifuru said.
He further urged the council bosses to prevent opposition parties from gaining ground in their areas, insisting that the APC must secure victory across the state in the 2027 elections.
Nwifuru also called on the chairmen to reconcile with politicians who contested against them and bring them back into the APC, stressing that they should not inherit political enemies.
“Don’t ever inherit anybody’s enemy. My enemy shouldn’t be your enemy. My enemy can be your friend,” he said.
The governor also cautioned the newly sworn-in vice-chairmen against rivalry with their principals, urging them to work together to ensure effective administration at the grassroots.
