The Accord Party has dismissed the endorsement of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, by Chris Imumolen, describing him as an expelled member with no authority to speak for the party.
According to Punch Newspaper, Imumolen, the party’s former 2023 presidential candidate, had appeared at an APC campaign rally in Osogbo and declared his support for Oyebamiji ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
Reacting in a statement on Thursday, Accord National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, said Imumolen was no longer a member of the party and could not claim to represent it.
Mgbudem rejected the description of Imumolen as the party’s “factional chairman,” insisting that there was no faction within Accord.
The party described Imumolen as a “political hireling and hustler” and said he lacked the political structure or electoral value to influence the outcome of the election.
Accord maintained its support for Governor Ademola Adeleke, expressing confidence that its candidate would secure victory in the election.
The party also accused the APC of resorting to alleged violence, harassment and intimidation because of fears of electoral defeat. The APC has yet to accept the allegations.
