The All Progressives Congress has stepped up its final mobilisation ahead of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election, with top party leaders and governors arriving in Osogbo for a mega rally in support of its candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Progressive Governors Forum Chairman Hope Uzodimma, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo and Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman were among those who arrived in Osogbo for the rally. Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and Ikeja Federal Constituency lawmaker James Faleke also joined the gathering.
The high-profile mobilisation is part of the APC’s attempt to consolidate its support base across the state as the campaign enters its final hours.
The visiting governors and other party leaders have also been engaging APC members and supporters, including residents in Osun who are originally from their respective states.
The party hopes the mobilisation will strengthen its grassroots structures and improve Oyebamiji’s chances when voters go to the polls on Saturday.
The mega rally is being held on the final day of the official campaign period. The Independent National Electoral Commission had fixed August 13 as the deadline for campaigns after shifting the election from August 8 to August 15.
Oyebamiji, a former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, is seeking to secure the APC’s return to power in the state. The party has used its final campaign activities to appeal to undecided voters and reinforce its message across the state.
With the election only two days away, the presence of senior APC figures highlights the importance the ruling party has attached to the contest as it seeks to convert its campaign momentum and political structures into votes for its candidate.
