The All Progressives Congress has intensified its campaign ahead of the Osun State governorship election, with several senior party leaders arriving in Osogbo for the party’s mega rally.
Among those who arrived for the rally were Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo and Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman. Punch Newspaper reports that the party leaders gathered in Osogbo as the APC stepped up its final mobilisation efforts ahead of Saturday’s election.
The presence of the senior APC figures underscores the importance the ruling party has attached to the Osun governorship contest, as the party seeks to strengthen its support base across the state.
The rally is expected to provide an opportunity for APC leaders to address party supporters and reinforce the campaign message of the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
The mobilisation comes just days before voters across the state are expected to decide who will occupy the Osun State Government House.
The APC has been campaigning to wrest power from the incumbent Peoples Democratic Party administration, making the election one of the closely watched governorship contests in the country.
With the major political parties entering the final phase of their campaigns, attention is increasingly focused on voter mobilisation, election-day security and the ability of each candidate to translate campaign support into votes.
The arrival of Akpabio and the governors also signals a strong show of solidarity from the APC’s national and state leadership as the party makes its final push before the polls.
