The crisis rocking the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, has deepened as aggrieved members in Edo South Senatorial District rejected the party’s National Reconciliation Committee, describing the initiative as a “charade.”
The aggrieved members said the committee, reportedly involving Professor Pat Utomi and Buba Galadima, could not resolve disputes arising from what they described as controversial primary elections. Vanguard reported the development.
In a statement issued by Agbonaye Osazee Ofo on behalf of the affected members, they argued that reconciliation could not substitute for justice or erase allegations of manipulated or disputed mandates.
The members questioned the purpose of establishing the committee when, according to them, the fundamental issues surrounding the disputed primaries had not been properly addressed.
They alleged that the committee was created to persuade aggrieved members to accept outcomes they believed were unfair rather than investigate how the disputes arose.
The group maintained that genuine reconciliation must begin with establishing the truth and addressing grievances through a fair process.
They further argued that party unity should not be achieved at the expense of internal democracy, insisting that members who felt their mandates had been denied should not be compelled to accept the disputed outcomes.
“Unity without justice is not unity. It is forced conformity,” Ofo said on behalf of the aggrieved members.
