The Deputy Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Abdussamad Dasuki, has called for Nigeria’s 2027 general election to be conducted in a single day.
Dasuki said the proposed arrangement could help reduce the cost of conducting elections and strengthen security during the electoral process. Punch Newspaper reported the development on Sunday.
The lawmaker also called for amendments to the Electoral Act to address loopholes that could undermine the credibility of future elections.
According to him, conducting the major elections on the same day could reduce the prolonged security deployment and logistical challenges associated with separating election dates.
Dasuki further advocated reforms that would strengthen the electoral system and make the voting process more efficient, transparent and secure.
He stressed the need for lawmakers and other stakeholders to examine existing provisions of the Electoral Act ahead of the 2027 polls.
The proposed changes, he noted, should be designed to prevent electoral fraud and improve public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process.
