Wike Explains Why Fubara Was Denied Second-Term Bid

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has revealed that the political crisis in Rivers State prevented Governor Siminalayi Fubara from seeking a second term, blaming the development on poor advice from political associates and external interests.

Wike made the disclosure during the August edition of his monthly media chat aired on Channels Television, where he reflected on his strained relationship with his former political ally.

The former Rivers State governor claimed that there had been an understanding that Fubara would not pursue a second term as part of efforts to restore peace in the state. However, he alleged that the agreement later came under pressure, deepening the political crisis.

Wike argued that some of Fubara’s associates and external political interests encouraged actions that undermined trust between both camps, ultimately leading to the breakdown of their political alliance. He maintained that the crisis could have been avoided if previous agreements had been respected.
