The South-West leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has thrown its weight behind the party’s National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, dismissing a petition seeking his removal as “baseless, unsubstantiated and misleading.”
The zonal leadership, led by the party’s National Vice Chairman (South-West), Akinbowale Omole, said the petition was authored by individuals who do not represent the recognised leadership of the ADC in the region. The group maintained that those behind the petition lacked the authority to speak on behalf of the South-West chapter.
According to the leadership, the allegations against Aregbesola ignored the constitutional responsibilities of the National Secretary, stressing that he only implements decisions taken by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC). It also clarified that the approval of candidates for the 2027 general elections was a collective decision of the NEC and not that of the National Secretary alone.
The ADC further accused the petitioners of previously violating the party’s constitution during congresses and primary elections before turning around to accuse Aregbesola of similar actions. It described the petition as an attempt by disgruntled members to destabilise the party after failing in earlier legal challenges.
