The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu has “defeated himself” ahead of the 2027 general election, arguing that the administration’s performance has weakened its chances of securing another term.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Adebayo said the Tinubu administration had failed to adequately address key national challenges, including poverty, insecurity and governance, insisting that these issues would shape voters’ decisions in the next election.
He maintained that the outcome of the 2027 presidential election would depend largely on Nigerians’ willingness to participate in the electoral process and their confidence that their votes would count. According to him, citizens should focus more on the country’s pressing challenges than on political personalities.
While expressing support for political cooperation among opposition parties, Adebayo said his priority was uniting Nigerians around solutions to national problems rather than simply forming an alliance to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
