ICPC Warns INEC Officials Against Election Result Manipulation Ahead of 2027 Polls

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has warned officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against engaging in election result manipulation and other forms of electoral malpractice ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The warning was issued by the ICPC Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner for Borno and Yobe states, Linus Gubbi, during a sensitisation programme for INEC personnel in Maiduguri aimed at promoting free, fair and credible elections.

Gubbi urged electoral officials to uphold integrity, transparency and professionalism while discharging their responsibilities, stressing that corruption within the electoral process undermines democracy and erodes public confidence in elections.

He identified election result manipulation, abuse of office, acceptance of inducements and compromise of electoral procedures as serious offences, warning that anyone found culpable would face legal consequences.

The ICPC official said the commission organised the sensitisation exercise as part of its preventive anti-corruption mandate to educate election officials on ethical conduct and the importance of maintaining public trust in Nigeria’s democratic process.

He also commended the INEC office in Borno State for supporting the initiative and called for stronger collaboration between both institutions to ensure transparent and credible elections in 2027.

The commission reaffirmed its commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to prevent electoral corruption and strengthen the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral system ahead of the next general elections.
