Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 65 Battalion have dismantled a suspected illegal oil bunkering site in the Orile General Area of Lagos State, arresting six suspected oil bunkerers during an intelligence-led operation.
The operation was carried out under the leadership of the Commanding Officer of the 65 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo, following credible intelligence on illegal oil bunkering activities in the area.
The Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 81 Division, Lieutenant Musa Yahaya, said the operation led to the arrest of six suspects and the recovery of four trucks, one pumping machine, as well as several pipes and drums allegedly used for illegal bunkering.
He said the suspects and all recovered exhibits had been handed over to the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Nigerian Army said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to combat economic sabotage and protect critical national assets across Lagos State.
Commending the troops for the successful operation, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Babalola, urged personnel to sustain the offensive against illegal oil bunkering and other criminal activities within the division’s area of responsibility.
