The governorship candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in the forthcoming Osun State governorship election, Olufemi Adesuyi, has urged security agencies to take firm action against individuals responsible for political violence, stressing that offenders should be arrested and prosecuted regardless of their political affiliation.
Adesuyi expressed concern over the recent rise in politically motivated attacks in the state, warning that continued violence could threaten the credibility of the August 15 governorship election and undermine the state’s peaceful democratic tradition. He maintained that elections should be decided through ideas and the ballot, not through intimidation or bloodshed.
The ZLP candidate called on politicians to refrain from sponsoring or shielding criminal elements for political gain, emphasizing that no elective office is worth the loss of innocent lives. He appealed to all political actors to conduct their campaigns peacefully and respect the rights of their opponents throughout the electoral process.
He also urged the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to strengthen security measures across the state, prevent further breakdown of law and order, and ensure that anyone involved in acts of violence is brought to justice without bias. According to him, impartial enforcement of the law is essential to guaranteeing a free, fair, and credible election.
Adesuyi further encouraged eligible voters not to be intimidated by the security situation but to participate actively in the election, assuring them of his commitment to promoting good governance, accountability, economic development, and lasting peace if elected governor.
