Oyo Revises School Calendar, Fixes July 6 Resumption After Teachers’ Strike

The Oyo State Government has revised the 2025/2026 academic calendar for public primary and secondary schools, announcing that schools will resume on Monday, July 6, following the suspension of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) strike.

The adjustment was contained in a circular issued by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. B.T. Oyinloye. According to the revised timetable, the academic session will continue for six weeks and end on August 14.

The government also approved a four-week holiday from August 17 to September 11, while the 2026/2027 first term is scheduled to commence on September 14.

The revised calendar follows the suspension of the month-long strike by the Oyo State chapter of the NUT, which had shut down public schools over the abduction of teachers and pupils in Oriire Local Government Area. The union called off the industrial action after receiving assurances from the state government on improved security measures and ongoing efforts to rescue the victims.

The state government urged school administrators, teachers, parents and students to comply with the new academic schedule to ensure a smooth completion of the session.
