Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State have appealed to party members dissatisfied with the National Working Committee’s (NWC) decision on the party’s National Assembly candidates to accept the outcome and work towards strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The appeal followed protests staged in Akure by some aggrieved APC members who rejected the revised list of candidates approved by the party’s national leadership after reviewing petitions arising from the primaries. The demonstrators alleged irregularities in the process and demanded that what they described as the authentic primary election results be recognised.
Speaking on behalf of the PBAT Mandate Elders Forum, the group’s chairman, Hon. Demola Ijabiyi, said the NWC remained the party’s highest administrative organ and that its decision should be respected by all members. He urged those unhappy with the outcome to use the party’s internal dispute resolution mechanisms instead of public demonstrations that could create further divisions.
Ijabiyi maintained that party supremacy must take precedence over individual interests, adding that no protest could overturn decisions reached through the APC’s established processes. He encouraged aspirants and their supporters to remain committed to the party despite the disagreements.
He congratulated candidates whose nominations were upheld and urged them to remain loyal to the party while providing quality representation if elected. He also appealed to unsuccessful aspirants to stay engaged, noting that politics offers continued opportunities for service.
The APC leadership further called on party stakeholders across Ondo State to embrace reconciliation and close ranks in preparation for future elections, stressing that unity would be critical to the party’s electoral success.
