Cleric-Turned Politician Pledges Transparent Leadership, Rejects Misuse of Public Funds

The candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Obi II State Constituency seat in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Bishop Ezekiel Musa, has vowed to serve with integrity, declaring that his ambition is driven by a desire to improve the lives of his people rather than enrich himself through public office.

Speaking with journalists in Lafia, the cleric-turned-politician said he decided to join partisan politics after years of witnessing what he described as poor representation and a lack of meaningful development in the constituency. According to him, residents have continued to suffer from inadequate healthcare, poor road infrastructure, limited access to clean drinking water and declining educational standards.

Musa explained that his experiences living in states such as Rivers, Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory exposed him to better governance and inspired him to seek public office with the aim of replicating similar development in his hometown. He noted that his humanitarian work through a non-governmental organisation has strengthened his commitment to serving vulnerable members of society.

The NDC candidate stressed that he is not contesting the 2027 election to loot public funds or pursue personal interests. Instead, he promised to focus on people-oriented legislation, community development and empowerment programmes that would directly benefit his constituents if elected.

Among his campaign promises are the construction of better roads, improved access to potable water, enhanced healthcare services and the establishment of a scholarship scheme for children from low-income families. He also pledged to promote transparency and accountability in the management of public resources.

Musa maintained that effective leadership should be measured by visible improvements in the lives of the people, expressing confidence that his background as a cleric and humanitarian would guide him in delivering responsible representation at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.
