The governing All Progressives Congress has unveiled an ambitious electoral roadmap ahead of the June 20 governorship election in Ekiti State, targeting an unprecedented 500,000-vote performance for incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
At the inauguration of the party’s national campaign council in Abuja, APC leaders projected confidence that the governor’s re-election bid would translate into one of the largest electoral victories in the state’s history. Party officials cited the administration’s infrastructure projects, social intervention programmes, healthcare initiatives, and grassroots mobilisation efforts as factors expected to drive voter support.
Leading the charge, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda described Oyebanji as one of the party’s strongest-performing governors, while insisting that no opposition party currently possesses the organisational structure or nationwide support network to rival the APC in Ekiti.
The campaign’s numerical target represents a significant leap from the governor’s 2022 election performance, when he secured 187,557 votes. Party strategists argue that expanded grassroots structures across all 16 local government areas and 177 wards, coupled with increased voter mobilisation, could produce a record-breaking outcome.
Chairman of the National Campaign Council and Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, said the 500,000-vote objective symbolises the party’s confidence in both the governor’s performance and the APC’s growing grassroots presence throughout the state. He maintained that the campaign would focus on direct engagement with voters rather than relying solely on traditional political rallies.
