The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure public support for a second term through his administration’s performance rather than political rhetoric.
Speaking at a contact and sensitisation retreat organised by the North-West Tinubu/Matawalle Peace and Unity Initiatives in Sokoto, Matawalle argued that criticism directed at the administration would ultimately be overshadowed by what he described as the government’s achievements in key sectors.
The minister maintained that the Tinubu administration has made significant progress in tackling insecurity, implementing economic reforms and investing in infrastructure, education and human capital development. He said ongoing efforts to strengthen the Armed Forces and other security agencies have contributed to gains against security threats, particularly in northern parts of the country.
Matawalle also accused some political opponents of spreading misinformation aimed at discrediting the government, insisting that Nigerians would judge the administration based on its record and developmental initiatives rather than propaganda. He urged young people to reject divisive narratives and support efforts that promote peace, unity and national development.
The retreat, attended by community leaders and political mobilisers from several North-West states, was convened to deepen grassroots support for the President and showcase the administration’s policies and achievements ahead of the 2027 general election.
