As a way of easing transportation, congestion and urban development, the unveiled Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has the Kaduna Bus Rapid Transit project.

According to reports, the project, the first of its kind in Northern Nigeria and the second nationwide after Lagos, is a collaboration between the Kaduna State Government and a French firm, with the Kaduna State Transport Regulatory Authority overseeing its implementation.

Speaking at the launch in Kakuri, Kaduna South, on Tuesday, Sani described the initiative as a major step towards transforming the state’s transportation landscape.

“When completed, the KBRT project will improve public transportation, foster sustainable urban development, and enhance the quality of life for our citizens,” the governor said.

He noted that the project includes the construction of a modern transport terminal in Kakuri, aimed at streamlining operations, reducing congestion, and improving safety for commuters.

“By consolidating various motor parks into a centralised location, we aim to enhance accessibility, improve security, and create a more organized and efficient transportation system,” he added.

Sani said President Bola Tinubu has pledged federal support for the state’s transportation development, including a ₦100 billion allocation in the 2025 budget for the Kaduna Light Rail Transit (KLRT).

“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to President Tinubu for his unwavering support and commitment to Kaduna State’s development,” he said.

French Ambassador to Nigeria, Marc Fonbaustier, lauded the initiative, describing it as a significant milestone in Kaduna’s urban transport evolution.

“I am impressed by Kaduna State’s progress in the transportation sector and the role of KADSTRA in driving this project forward,” he stated.

The KBRT system is expected to serve 160,000 commuters daily and benefit over 100,000 residents directly.

Officials say the project will offer a cost-effective alternative to rail transport, with infrastructure expenses estimated to be five times lower than metro or train systems.
