Nigeria’s power sector has reached a new milestone as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reports a record-breaking peak power generation of 5,713.60 megawatts.
In a statement, TCN stated that the latest achievement was recorded March 2, 2025, at 21:30 hours, surpassing the previous peak of 5,543.20MW set on February 14, 2025, by an additional 170.40 MW. TCN clarified that while this new peak is 88 MW lower than the all-time maximum of 5,801.60MW recorded on March 1, 2021, it remains a significant milestone for the sector.
It added that the maximum daily energy supply also saw an increase, reaching 125,542.06 megawatt-hours (MWh), up from 125,159.48 MWh recorded last month. This marks the highest daily energy ever attained in Nigeria’s electricity history, exceeding the previous record by 382.58 MWh.
This achievement highlights the power sector’s ability to maintain a higher energy output over a full day, a crucial step toward addressing Nigeria’s increasing electricity demand.
