Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has pledged not to interfere in the selection of the All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 governorship election, stressing that the party’s governorship flag bearer will have the freedom to choose a running mate.
Speaking on the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections, Zulum said his administration remains committed to promoting internal democracy and ensuring that decisions affecting the party are made through consultation rather than personal influence.
The governor explained that although he may offer advice when necessary, he has no intention of imposing any individual as the deputy governorship candidate. According to him, the governorship candidate should be allowed to make the final decision on a running mate based on what is best for the party and the people of Borno State.
Zulum emphasized that unity within the APC is essential to maintaining the party’s political strength in the state. He urged party members and stakeholders to place the collective interest of the APC above personal ambitions as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting a transparent and peaceful transition of leadership, expressing confidence that the APC would remain united and competitive in the forthcoming governorship election.
