The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) says it is preparing to contest more than 90 per cent of elective positions across Nigeria in the 2027 general elections, despite challenges arising from internal and legal disputes.
The party’s founder disclosed the plan while discussing the NNPP’s preparations for the 2027 elections.
The announcement signals the party’s ambition to expand beyond its traditional areas of influence and establish a stronger nationwide political structure ahead of the elections.
The NNPP said litigation and other delays had affected some of its preparations, but maintained that it had still been able to position itself to field candidates across a large majority of elective positions.
The planned coverage is expected to include contests for federal and state legislative seats as well as governorship and other elective positions, as the party seeks to strengthen its presence ahead of 2027.
The development comes amid intensified political realignment across Nigeria, with opposition parties and emerging political platforms working to build structures and attract candidates ahead of the general elections.
The NNPP’s proposed nationwide participation could increase competition in several constituencies, particularly in areas where voters are seeking alternatives to the country’s dominant political parties.
The party is expected to continue its mobilisation and candidate selection processes as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
