A former National Vice Chairman (North-West) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Lukman, has warned that Nigeria’s opposition parties may once again hand victory to the ruling APC in the 2027 general election if they fail to overcome internal divisions and personal ambitions.
Lukman said the opposition risks repeating the same mistakes that contributed to its poor outing in the 2023 presidential election, stressing that disunity remains its biggest obstacle.
Speaking during an interview, Lukman noted that while many Nigerians are dissatisfied with the current administration, public frustration alone will not guarantee electoral success for opposition parties unless they present a united front and a credible alternative.
He expressed concern over growing disagreements within the emerging opposition coalition, warning that political leaders who prioritize personal interests over collective goals could weaken efforts to challenge the APC in 2027.
Lukman said the coalition must move beyond internal power struggles and focus on developing a clear vision capable of addressing Nigeria’s economic and governance challenges.
He argued that Nigerians are looking for leaders who can inspire confidence through unity, competence, and a practical plan to improve the country’s situation rather than endless political infighting.
The former APC chieftain added that unless opposition parties learn from the lessons of the 2023 election and resolve their differences early, they could once again split their votes and pave the way for another APC victory.
He urged political actors within the coalition to place national interest above individual ambitions, insisting that only a united opposition can mount a serious challenge in the next presidential election.
