he Allied Peoples Movement senatorial candidate for Ondo Central, Sunday Falae, has said the outcome of the 2027 election in the district will be largely determined by candidates’ popularity and connection with voters rather than political party structures.
Falae made the statement while expressing confidence that the APM could defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress in the Ondo Central Senatorial District during the 2027 general election.
Speaking in Akure, Falae criticised the APC for what he described as its lack of meaningful impact on residents of the senatorial district, particularly those in the state capital.
According to him, the APC’s claim that it had no opposition in Ondo State was intended to intimidate opposition parties and their supporters.
Falae argued that political parties alone could no longer guarantee electoral victory, stressing that the personality and popularity of individual candidates were increasingly important factors in elections.
He said his familiarity with the senatorial district and relationship with the people would strengthen his chances at the poll.
The APM candidate also maintained that opposition forces were already present in the state, despite the formal campaign for the 2027 election yet to begin.
Falae said the party would surprise the APC once political activities intensify, expressing confidence that voters would demand better representation at the National Assembly.
He further urged residents to judge candidates based on their records, popularity and ability to represent their interests rather than simply voting along party lines.
