2027: Babachir Lawal Mocks Atiku’s ADC Presidential Bid

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has mocked former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s decision to contest the 2027 presidential election under the African Democratic Congress.

Lawal described Atiku and the ADC’s candidate-selection process in disparaging terms while also accusing the party of manipulating its Adamawa governorship primary. Vanguard reported the development.

In a Facebook post titled “Kachalla Series Three,” Lawal alleged that the ADC replaced Umar Suleiman, whom he claimed won the party’s Adamawa governorship primary, with Tukur Moddibo.

He alleged that the decision was influenced by ethnic and religious considerations and claimed that Atiku played a role in the substitution.

Lawal compared the development to purchasing a cheap product from the online marketplace TEMU, using the comparison to mock Atiku’s emergence as the ADC’s presidential candidate.

He also accused the ADC of violating its constitution, the Electoral Act 2026 and its primary election guidelines through the alleged substitution.

The former SGF said he would challenge the matter in court, insisting that the alleged substitution should not stand.

Lawal further predicted that both the ADC and the All Progressives Congress could lose the Adamawa governorship election, arguing that voters in the state had other political options.

The allegations come as opposition politicians intensify realignments ahead of the 2027 general election, with Atiku and other prominent figures positioning themselves for a possible challenge to President Bola Tinubu.
